A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The Sugar Bowl, Gaylord's Landmark Restaurant, founded in 1919 by George and Harry Doumas. The name Sugar Bowl denoted a place where ice cream and candy was sold. Many towns had Sugar Bowls and at one time it was the central meeting place in the nationally syndicated comic strip Harold Teen.
As the years passed by, most Sugar Bowls closed or changed their names; however, Gaylord's remained. Light lunches and sandwiches substitute the traditional ice cream and candies, beer and wine were served after the repeal of prohibition. A liquor license was added in 1947 and the menu was constantly changed to reflect the new trends and tastes of the guests.
The building that houses the restaurant is in the same location as the original; however, it has undergone many remodeling since its opening. The latest in 2017 when the new owners bought it from Mr. Robert H Doumas, son of George Doumas.
As the new owners of this Gaylord's gem, that is celebrating its 100th Anniversary! is our pleasure to have the opportunity to serve you and your family with a menu that offers the traditional Sugar Bowl dishes that regular patrons come to expect as well as new options and creations for those who are visiting for the first time or just want to try new flavors!
